Most games on Steam natively support game controllers, but if you are having trouble getting Backbone Pro to work, you may need to enable Steam Input. Steam Input is a feature within Steam that provides a way to re-map controls and customize layouts for controllers, allowing users to play games with a controller even if the game itself doesn't have native controller support.
To utilize this feature with your Backbone Pro, follow the steps below:
- First, launch Steam on your device.
- On Windows, go to Settings. On macOS, go to Steam > Preferences.
- Click on Controller.
- Turn on Enable Steam Input for generic controllers.
- Under Controller Name you should see “Xbox Series X Controller”. Under the Test Device Inputs setting, click the Begin Test box.
- In the pop-up window, click Reset Device Inputs.
- Now click Setup Device Inputs and follow the prompts that pair the correct buttons. The final step that says "Press the Bottom center button (Share/Capture), or press A to skip," press A to skip.
- You should now be able to use the controller in all games on Steam that support controllers.
Additional Tips
- Sometimes you may have to go within the game's settings to enable controller support after launching the game.
- Certain games will only work if Enable Steam Input for Xbox controllers is on.
