All Backbone One controllers play the same hundreds of games the same way, but there are a few differences between editions:
- Even though they do the same thing, there are some visual differences (color, markings on buttons)
- All Backbone One Editions are not compatible with PS Remote Play when using Android except for the Backbone One - PlayStation Edition. All Backbone One Editions are compatible with PS Remote Play when using iOS.
- Backbone One controllers purchased before August 1, 2026 include two magnetic adapter sets, small and large. Controllers purchased on or after August 1, 2026 include a single pair of rubber adapters, pre-installed, in the same size as the previous small set. - The 2nd generation controllers directional pad and face buttons have been updated to ensure even more precise and responsive input.
- Headphone jack: Backbone One controllers purchased before August 1, 2026 include a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom left handle. Controllers purchased on or after August 1, 2026 do not. See Can I use headphones with the Backbone One? for audio options on either.
